Toronto FC were hopeful Jozy Altidore would be fit for their meeting with Atlanta United in the Eastern Conference final on Wednesday, but the striker was ruled out of the contest after failing to overcome his quadriceps injury.

Altidore, 29, hasn't featured in the playoffs after suffering the ailment in the club's last match of the regular season against the Columbus Crew.

With the American once again unavailable, manager Greg Vanney opted to use the same starting XI that upset New York City FC last week.

There was optimism in the TFC camp that defender Omar Gonzalez - who, like Altidore, has been absent from the team's playoff run due to injury - would overcome his lingering hamstring issue, but he was only fit enough to be among the substitutes at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
