Report: Toronto FC in process of terminating Boyd's contract
Terrence Boyd's time at Toronto FC is almost up.
The club is in the process of terminating the American forward's contract by mutual consent, reports Jeff Carlisle of ESPN. The move will allow Boyd, 28, to head back to Germany and join an unspecified 3. Bundesliga side.
Carlisle adds that family motivations for Boyd are driving the decision "in part."
Outside of two seasons with Rapid Vienna, Boyd had spent the entirety of his senior career in Germany prior to joining TFC in February.
The veteran striker didn't score in 11 MLS matches with TFC. He missed a penalty in his first appearance for the Canadian club, a dispiriting loss to Panama's Club Atletico Independiente in the CONCACAF Champions League.
Carlisle notes that Boyd's impending departure could open up salary cap space for Greg Vanney's side to add another player before the summer transfer window closes.
