Report: Toronto FC set to sign Genk's Pozuelo
Toronto FC are reportedly a step away from signing Genk playmaker Alejandro Pozuelo as Sebastian Giovinco's replacement.
Negotiations for the 27-year-old Pozuelo are "at the finish line" and he's expected to suit up for TFC by the end of March, TSN's Kristian Jack reports.
TFC president Bill Manning, who recently returned from a trip to Belgium, told The Canadian Press on Saturday that talks with Genk had advanced.
Toronto is expected to pay Pozuelo's release clause, which reportedly stands at around $10 million. That would make the Spaniard the club's third Designated Player after Michael Bradley and Jozy Altidore.
There was speculation that Genk wouldn't allow Pozuelo to leave the club until the end of the Belgian season in March. Genk, who were recently eliminated from the Europa League, will play their last game March 17 against Zulte Waregem.
Pozuelo has served as club captain for Genk this season, registering five goals and nine assists in 26 league appearances. A native of Sevilla, he has also played for Real Betis and Rayo Vallecano in La Liga and briefly for Swansea City in the Premier League.
