Vancouver Whitecaps fire head coach Carl Robinson, 2 others
The Vancouver Whitecaps announced Tuesday they've parted ways with head coach Carl Robinson, as well as assistant coach Martyn Pert and goalkeeper coach Stewart Kerr.
Craig Dalrymple will temporarily leave his role as the Whitecaps FC Academy technical director to act as the Whitecaps' head coach for the remaining five matches of the Major League Soccer season.
The club noted that the search for Robinson's permanent successor will begin "immediately."
"We have a lot of respect and appreciation for Carl and his team, and are thankful for the contributions they have made to this club," Bob Lenarduzzi, Whitecaps FC president, said. "A lot of thought and consideration has gone into this decision, which was made with the best interests of the club moving forward."
News of Robinson's dismissal comes two days after Vancouver fell 2-1 to FC Dallas, a loss that left the Canadian side four points back of the Seattle Sounders for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
The 41-year-old, who was the fourth-longest-tenured head coach in MLS before Tuesday's firing, took charge of the Whitecaps in December 2013. He recorded a 64-59-42 regular-season record and a 78-71-50 mark across all competitions.
He also guided the Whitecaps to three playoff appearances, with his biggest accomplishment as a head coach coming in 2015 when he led Vancouver to a 2-0 victory over the Montreal Impact to win the Canadian Championship.
Vancouver will look to end its two-match losing skid on Saturday against the Los Angeles Galaxy.
