Josef Martinez's two second-half goals on Saturday against Toronto FC have moved the Venezuelan one back of the MLS season record of 27. That standard is shared by Chris Wondolowski, Bradley Wright-Phillips, and Roy Lassiter.
Atlanta United benefitted from a contentious penalty that saw Martinez level from the spot seven minutes after the interval, with the former Torino forward doubling that tally shortly thereafter with a lunging header. Martinez was taken off 11 minutes from time.
