The New England Revolution confirmed Friday that their longest-serving player, Chris Tierney, will miss the rest of the MLS season with a knee injury.

The 32-year-old left-back collapsed to the turf during the 1-1 draw with Atlanta United on Wednesday night after no apparent contact.

He will undergo surgery within the next few weeks, but the Revs have already placed him on their season-ending injury list, thus ending his 2018 campaign. The club expects his recovery time to be nine months, meaning he could even face a challenge to return to fitness in time for the start of the 2019 campaign.

Tierney is a fan favorite both for his longevity at the club and his wicked left foot, and the news of his injury will come as a huge blow to New England and its supporters. Brad Friedel's side currently occupies the final postseason spot in the Eastern Conference.

Tierney was drafted by the Foxborough side in 2008. He has amassed 246 MLS appearances during his 11-season career, all with the Revs.
