Wondolowski ties for 2nd all time in MLS scoring history

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

Chris Wondolowski must be tired of playing hero.

The mercurial San Jose Earthquakes striker became joint-second in Major League Soccer's all-time scoring charts Sunday, notching his 134th effort in a crucial playoff tilt against Minnesota United to cement his name in league lore and push his team back into the sixth and final playoff spot in the West.

Wondolowski, who ties Jeff Cunningham for second on the all-time list, is now 11 goals behind Landon Donovan (145), but won't have time to celebrate his accomplishments this year as the Quakes look to make a run for the MLS Cup.

Still, the 34-year-old, who has featured in every match of the 2017 season, can be pretty pleased with his 13-goal tally for the year ... though it's still a ways behind his 27-goal, league-leading record from the 2012 season.
