MLS Power Rankings, Week 13: Dallas dips, Seattle surges as TFC stays top

Welcome to the 2017 MLS Power Rankings, where we rank each team after each week with consideration to form, latest results, stats, and some other intangibles to try to craft an idea of how things stand in one single table.

Here's how each team ranks after Week 13 of the 2017 season:

1. Toronto FC

• Last Week: 5-0 win vs. Columbus Crew
• Next MLS Match: June 3 at New England (7:30 p.m. ET)

Ten-man Toronto FC scored five (without Sebastian Giovinco or Jozy Altidore) to make it eight in a row without a loss. No team can step toe-to-toe with TFC.

2. Sporting Kansas City (+1)

• Last Week: 1-0 loss vs. Colorado Rapids
• Next MLS Match: June 3 vs. Minnesota (5 p.m. ET)

Two losses in a row isn't ideal for Sporting Kansas City, less so that this last one came against struggling Colorado. The bump up is due to Dallas' drop.

3. FC Dallas (-1)

• Last Week: 2-1 loss vs. Chicago, 0-0 draw vs. Houston
• Next MLS Match: June 3 vs. Real Salt Lake (8 p.m. ET)

Not a great week for FC Dallas, which lost against Chicago, then kicked off the Texas Derby with a 0-0 draw at home to Houston. At least Mauro Diaz is back.

4. New York City FC (-)

• Last Week: 3-1 loss vs. Atlanta United
• Next MLS Match: May 31 vs. New England (7:30 p.m. ET)

New York City FC came off a strong win over Orlando but couldn't replicate the feat against Atlanta, conceding thrice in seven minutes in a woeful first half.

5. Chicago Fire (+2)

• Last Week: 2-1 win vs. FC Dallas
• Next MLS Match: June 4 at Orlando (7:30 p.m. ET)

Three wins in a row tell the story of a Chicago Fire team finally finding itself. In truth, it's well-deserved for Veljko Paunovic's side, who now boast seven wins.

6. Orlando City (-)

• Last Week: 1-0 loss vs. Minnesota United
• Next MLS Match: May 31 vs. D.C. United (7:30 p.m. ET)

Orlando City went into Minnesota desiring a turnaround of sorts after a draw and a loss and found nothing but dropped points against the Loons.

7. Portland Timbers (-2)

• Last Week: 1-0 loss vs. Seattle Sounders
• Next MLS Match: June 2 vs. San Jose (11 p.m. ET)

The Portland Timbers needed a pick-me-up after a 4-1 loss to Montreal last week but found no such remedy against rival Seattle in Cascadia Cup action.

8. Houston Dynamo (-)

• Last Week: 0-0 draw vs. FC Dallas
• Next MLS Match: May 31 vs. Real Salt Lake (8:30 p.m. ET)

Well, it's not a loss, which is just fine and dandy for the Houston Dynamo, who cured some road woes with a scoreless Texas Derby draw. On to the next one.

9. New York Red Bulls (+1)

• Last Week: 2-1 win vs. New England Revolution
• Next MLS Match: June 3 at Montreal (7:30 p.m. ET)

There are very few things in MLS that we can take for granted but New York Red Bulls at home? That's probably going to result in a straightforward win.

10. Atlanta United (+1)

• Last Week: 3-1 win vs. New York City FC
• Next MLS Match: June 3 at Vancouver (5:30 p.m. ET)

Atlanta United had a bit of a hiccup after a stellar start but have found their feet once again. Miguel Almiron is turning heads for MLS' top-scoring newcomers.

11. Seattle Sounders (+2)

• Last Week: 1-0 win vs. Portland Timbers
• Next MLS Match: May 31 at Columbus (7:30 p.m. ET)

Two wins in a row is just what the doctor ordered for the Seattle Sounders. It's doubly sweet that this latest win came at the expense of rival Portland, too.

12. Columbus Crew (-2)

• Last Week: 5-0 loss vs. Toronto FC
• Next MLS Match: May 31 vs. Seattle (7:30 p.m. ET)

Talk about a walloping; the Columbus Crew suffered another loss, failed to win the Trillium Cup, and now have more defeats than any other team in the East.

13. Vancouver Whitecaps (-1)

• Last Week: 1-0 loss vs. D.C. United
• Next MLS Match: June 3 vs. Atlanta (5:30 p.m. ET)

The Vancouver Whitecaps lost off a penalty drawn by a blatant dive by Jose Guillermo Ortiz, but missed an equalizer from a late spot-kick of their own.

14. LA Galaxy (+2)

• Last Week: 4-2 win vs. San Jose Earthquakes
• Next MLS Match: June 3 at D.C. United (7 p.m. ET)

They're back! Three straight wins for the LA Galaxy is nice enough and the team has four away wins in 2017, already matching its total from last season.

15. New England Revolution (-1)

• Last Week: 2-1 loss vs. New York Red Bulls
• Next MLS Match: May 31 at NYCFC (7:30 p.m. ET)

The New England Revolution's away trip to New York continues with a match at Yankee Stadium, where three points would be very much appreciated.

16. San Jose Earthquakes (-1)

• Last Week: 4-2 loss vs. LA Galaxy
• Next MLS Match: June 2 at Portland (11 p.m. ET)

California belongs to Los Angeles, or so says Jelle Van Damme, and the San Jose Earthquakes have little comeback to the notion after suffering a 4-2 loss.

17. Montreal Impact (-)

• Last Week: Bye week
• Next MLS Match: June 3 vs. NY Red Bulls (7:30 p.m. ET)

The Montreal Impact were tied up with Canadian Championship action, which brought another blow to morale in the form of a 2-1 loss to Vancouver in Leg 1.

18. Minnesota United (+1)

• Last Week: 1-0 win vs. Orlando City
• Next MLS Match: June 3 at Sporting KC (5 p.m. ET)

Minnesota United head coach Adrian Heath exacted his revenge against former club Orlando and Christian Ramirez continued to flex his scoring muscles in MLS play.

19. Philadelphia Union (-1)

• Last Week: 1-0 loss vs. Real Salt Lake
• Next MLS Match: June 3 at NYCFC (1 p.m. ET)

All good things must come to an end, and for the Philadelphia Union, four wins in a row was as good as it got as RSL brought back the bitter taste of defeat.

20. Real Salt Lake (+1)

• Last Week: 1-0 win vs. Philadelphia Union
• Next MLS Match: May 31 at Houston (8:30 p.m. ET)

Real Salt Lake needed this victory, and badly, as playoff spots start to get out of reach. RSL's one point per game is the second lowest in MLS this season.

21. D.C. United (-1)

• Last Week: 1-0 win vs. Vancouver Whitecaps
• Next MLS Match: May 31 at Orlando (7:30 p.m. ET)

D.C. United stole all three points against Vancouver and was lucky to do so. But at this point, Ben Olsen will take victories any and every way he can.

22. Colorado Rapids (-)

• Last Week: 1-0 win vs. Sporting Kansas City
• Next MLS Match: June 3 vs. Columbus (9 p.m. ET)

We'd be impressed with this week's win if not for the fact that the Colorado Rapids parked the bus for 80 minutes. Surviving does not mean thriving.
