De Jong sees red as LA Galaxy brush aside Vancouver Whitecaps
CARSON - LA Galaxy duo Robbie Keane and Jeff Larentowicz both found the back of the net against the Vancouver Whitecaps courtesy of a pair of assists by star man Steven Gerrard, whose workload was doubled after notorious Dutch midfielder Nigel De Jong picked up his first MLS red card.
Keane marked his return to MLS action - having been away since May 22 with the Republic of Ireland for Euro 2016 - by opening the scoring in the 12th minute, taking Gerrard's feed near the penalty arc and bending a right-footed shot into the top-right corner.
Larentowicz added a second from a corner routine, heading home Gerrard's cross in the 47th minute.
With around 15 minutes remaining in the match, De Jong was shown a straight red card for a studs-up tackle from behind on Blas Perez.
Brian Rowe made three saves in the final 15 minutes to preserve his fourth shutout of the season and the LA Galaxy ended a seven-game winless streak that included a run of 371 scoreless minutes.
