Pappa's late goal gives Rapids 2-1 win over Fire
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (AP) Marco Pappa scored in the 89th minute to give the MLS-leading Colorado Rapids a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Fire on Saturday night.
Pappa entered late as a substitute for Dillon Powers and scored on a left-footed shot that deflected off defender Jonathan Campbell.
Kevin Doyle opened the scoring for Colorado (9-2-4) in the 57th minute with a right-footed shot that slid underneath goalkeeper Sean Johnson's right hand. Joey Calistri tied it for Chicago (2-6-5) in the 81st minute, trapping Rodrigo Ramos' header pass and sending a left-footed stab into the far corner of the goal for his first career MLS goal.
The Rapids, with a league-best 31 points, set a franchise record for the earliest point in the season (15 games) to surpass the 30-point mark.
