General manager Jon Daniels talked about Desmond on Monday, stating "he is our left fielder, and he will be all year", TR Sullivan of MLB.com reports.
Rangers GM Jon Daniels said of Desmond on Monday, "He is our left fielder, and he will be all year," TR Sullivan of MLB.com reports.
Analysis:
There were thoughts that Desmond might just play left field until Josh Hamilton's return, but Daniels said that how Hamilton will contribute to the team this season will be determined when that point of the season comes along. Daniels also seems content with letting Desmond man left field while top prospects Joey Gallo and Nomar Mazara develop more in the minor leagues. Naturally, Desmond's results will affect how he sticks in left field, but this is definitely a vote of confidence for the former shortstop going forward.
