Report: Giants, Belt avoid arbitration with 1-year deal

The San Francisco Giants have reportedly avoided arbitration with first baseman Brandon Belt, agreeing to terms Wednesday on a $6.2-million contract for the 2016 campaign, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.
Belt, who earned $3.6 million last season in his second year of arbitration eligibility, rebounded nicely after missing most of 2014 with injury problems, hitting .280/.356/.478 (137 OPS+) while managing 4.3 WAR and a career-high 18 homers in 137 games.
By agreeing to terms with Belt, a fifth-round pick in the 2009 draft, the Giants have now gone 12 straight years without requiring an arbitration hearing. Last week, the club agreed to terms with reliever George Kontos, their only other arbitration-eligible player.
