Yankees' claim Torreyes, DFA Adams
Steve Mitchell / USA TODAY Sports
The New York Yankees made a pair of transactions Monday after announcing first baseman Gregory Bird will miss the 2016 season with a torn right labrum.
The club designated outfielder Lane Adams for assignment to make room for infielder Ronald Torreyes, whom the club claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels.
Analysis:
Adams struggled in Triple-A with the Royals, batting just .226/.305/.374 in 2015. The 26-year-old outfielder will provide speed on the basepaths but will likely spend most of 2016 with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
