Analysis:

This is a curious decision to say the least for the Padres, given that Liriano is still only 24 and hit .292/.383/.460 at Triple-A last year to go along with a rough major league debut. Considering the departure of Will Venable and Justin Upton, there was a good chance that Liriano could have made the Opening Day roster. The former Top 100 prospect will likely be claimed on waivers, so he should be on a new team soon.
