Iwakuma rejects qualifying offer from Mariners

Hisashi Iwakuma appears poised to test the open market after rejecting a one-year, $15.8-million qualifying offer from the Seattle Mariners ahead of Friday's deadline.
The Mariners will receive draft-pick compensation if Iwakuma signs with another club, while the team that acquires him will be forced to forfeit their top unprotected pick in the 2016 draft.
The 34-year-old right-hander has spent his entire MLB career in Seattle, compiling a 3.17 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP in 111 games since making his debut in 2012.
In 2015, Iwakuma missed time due to injury, but still posted a 3.54 ERA over 20 starts while tossing the fifth no-hitter in franchise history Aug. 12 against the Baltimore Orioles.
