Astros' Gomez diagnosed with mild intercostal strain
Houston Astros outfielder Carlos Gomez was diagnosed with a mild intercostal strain after an MRI on Monday, and it's unknown if he'll be able to return before the finale of his team's crucial series with the Texas Rangers on Thursday.
"The funny thing, I'm not even swinging hard the last couple of swings, I'm trying to finish," said Gomez, who suffered the injury during batting practice Sunday and has not played since. "I said, 'If I swing hard in that situation, I'm probably out for the season.' I can't explain how frustrating (this is)."
Gomez is known for his powerful swing, and his presence will certainly be missed in the Astros' lineup as they hope to lock down the AL West division title.
Gomez has struggled this season, but looked to be getting back on track in September, batting .306/.381/.611 with a pair of homers through 10 games.
Jake Marisnick took his place in center field Tuesday night.
