Athletics' Chavez out for season with non-displaced rib fracture
Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports
With five of their pitchers already on the disabled list, the Oakland Athletics announced yet another will be sidelined.
Right-hander Jesse Chavez was scratched from his scheduled start Wednesday against the Chicago White Sox, and Jane Lee of MLB.com later reported that he won't pitch again this season due to a non-displaced rib fracture.
The 32-year-old was reportedly having trouble breathing, and will be going home for an MRI on Wednesday after X-rays came back negative. Chavez has a 7-15 record this season while sporting a 4.18 ERA.
Fellow right-hander Cody Martin may start in his place.
