St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Jason Heyward left Monday's contest with the San Francisco Giants after two innings due to left hamstring tightness.
Heyward was making his first start of the season in center field, and didn't appear to suffer the injury on any particular play.
"We made the proactive move of just getting him out," Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said postgame. "We're not going to go any further."
St. Louis placed outfielder Randal Grichuk on the disabled list earlier Monday with a right elbow strain, so a long-term injury to Heyward would test the club's depth.
Heyward clubbed two homers in the Cardinals' 6-4 loss to the Miami Marlins on Sunday.
