Jayson Werth is returning slightly ahead of schedule.
The Washington Nationals slugger is expected to rejoin the team Tuesday following a 2 1/2-month stint on the disabled list with a fractured left wrist, according to Mark Zuckerman of CSN.
Werth had targeted Aug. 1 for his return. He successfully completed a six-game rehab stint with Triple-A Syracuse, going 9-for-23 (.391) with a pair of doubles.
The 36-year-old's return is a major boost for the division-leading Nationals, who also welcomed Anthony Rendon back from the DL on Saturday.
Werth has been limited to 27 games this season, hitting .208/.294/.287 with two home runs and 12 RBIs.
