The Oakland Athletics reached a deal Monday with their first-round pick from the 2015 MLB Draft, agreeing to terms with University of Florida shortstop Richie Martin, the 20th overall pick.
The club didn't disclose terms of the deal, but Martin's signing bonus will likely near $2,214,000, the recommended slot value for the 20th overall pick.
Martin, who posted an .829 OPS with six homers and 20 stolen bases in 70 games as a senior for Florida, should stick at shortstop as a professional, but some questions remain about his ability to hit at baseball's highest level, according to ESPN's Keith Law.
