The Colorado Rockies have optioned Drew Stubbs and his $5.83-million contract to Triple-A Albuquerque.
In 24 games and 56 plate appearances this season, Stubbs, who signed a one-year deal, is batting an abysmal .118/.182/.255. Between 2010-12, Stubbs was known as a burner on the basepaths, stealing 100 bases in three seasons.
Since that time, he's only managed to swipe 38 bases, including one this season.
As a counter move, the Rockies recalled outfielder Brandon Barnes from Triple-A, and although he isn't much of an upgrade, he provides a little more speed and pop in the order.
In 33 games this season, Barnes has five homers, six doubles and seven stolen bases, despite owning a rough .205/.266/.364 slash line.
