VIDEO: Angels' Perez hits walk-off homer in MLB debut

Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

One game into his major-league career, Carlos Perez already finds himself in elite company.

The Los Angeles Angels catcher made a historic impression on his teammates Tuesday, becoming the first player since Miguel Cabrera to hit a walk-off home run in his MLB debut. Cabrera accomplished the feat as a member of the Florida Marlins on June 20, 2003.

Perez, acquired by the Angels during the offseason, was making his first career start after spending the more than seven seasons in the minors. With one swing of the bat off Seattle Mariners reliever Dominic Leone, the wait was well worth it.

Perez's homer lifted the Angels to a 5-4 victory and snapped their four-game losing streak. He also singled in the second inning for his first career hit.
