Mets' Niese tossed in 6th inning vs. Yankees
New York Mets left-hander Jonathon Niese was forced to watch the final innings of his club's 6-1 loss at Yankee Stadium from the clubhouse Friday after being ejected by home-plate umpire Doug Eddings in the sixth inning.
Niese, who's set to start Sunday's series final against the Yankees, voiced his displeasure with Eddings' strike zone and was unable to keep his mouth shut after he was warned by the 18-year veteran.
Specifically, Niese was irked by a strike call against teammate Juan Lagares as he faced Yankees starter Michael Pineda.
"I thought that it was a ball. He called it a strike. And I told him, 'Make an adjustment,'" Niese told ESPN's Adam Rubin. "... He said he didn't want to hear another word. And I said, 'Well, then make an adjustment.' And he tossed me."
Niese also refused to divulge whether or not he directed any profanities towards Eddings.
"Uhh, I plead the fifth on that one."
