Gonzales will start Sunday's spring training game against the Mets in place of Jaime Garcia (shoulder), the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Analysis:

With Garcia reporting a setback with his surgically-repaired left shoulder, Gonzales was scratched from his scheduled relief appearance Saturday and will now start Sunday instead. Gonzales has pitched well in Grapefruit League play to this point, allowing just one earned run on eight hits and four walks with seven strikeouts in 12.2 innings. Carlos Martinez will remain stretched out for now with Garcia ailing, but he hasn't been as sharp this spring (3.94 ERA) and Gonzales could further separate himself with a strong outing Sunday.
