Oakland A's manager Bob Melvin confirmed Friday that Tyler Clippard will start the season as the team's closer, John Hickey of the Bay Area News Group reports.
Analysis:
Clippard was the obvious favorite, with Sean Doolittle (shoulder) out until late April or early May. Once Doolittle is ready, Clippard will likely get most of his work in the seventh or eighth inning.
