MLB Game Summary - Washington at St. Louis
Jupiter, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Michael Wacha and Max Scherzer each turned in strong starts for their respective teams during the St. Louis Cardinals' 1-0 victory over the Washington Nationals in spring-training play.
Scherzer, the Nationals' marquee free-agent addition during the offseason, lowered his spring ERA to 1.35 with six scoreless innings. The former Detroit Tigers ace racked up nine strikeouts while yielding just three hits.
Wacha was nearly as good, permitting four hits and a walk while fanning four over 5 2/3 scoreless frames.
The game's only run was scored in the bottom of the eighth inning, with Ty Kelly plating Charlie Tilson on a sacrifice fly off Washington reliever Aaron Barrett.
