Rockies' Tulowitzki, Gonzalez won't be rushed into spring games
The Colorado Rockies plan to play it safe with their oft-injured superstars.
Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez won't be rushed into spring games as the pair continue to recover from injuries, manager Walt Weiss said Saturday.
Tulowitzki, who underwent hip surgery in August, and Gonzalez, who went under the knife for knee surgery in the same month, will begin running the bases next week. Neither player will suit up for the team's Cactus League opener Wednesday vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks.
"There are still some things they need to do on the field before they're even ready to go into a game - running bases, specifically," Weiss said. "Last year, we'd have been very happy with the way they're at right now when we thought about their recovery and everything they had to go through. With where they are now, we're very encouraged by it."
Tulowitzki has played in only 264 games over the past three seasons due to various injuries, while Gonzalez has been limited to 315.
