Cabrera (ankle) is at least a week away from being cleared to do field work, the Detroit News reports.
Analysis:
Cabrera admitted that the injury impacted his approach down the stretch last year, including swinging at more pitches outside of the strike zone because of the physical toll the loading process was taking on his foot as he prepared for each swing. Cabrera was noncommittal regarding his availability for Opening Day, but he suggested that 50-60 at-bats would likely be enough for him to get into regular season form. Cabrera reported to camp noticeably trimmer than he was at the end of last season, a likely byproduct of the conditioning and upper body work he was able to maintain during the offseason.
