GOODYEAR, Ariz. - Cincinnati Reds pitcher Homer Bailey won't be ready for the start of the season as he recovers from surgery on Sept. 5 to repair a torn right flexor tendon.
The $105 million right-hander said Wednesday he hasn't had any setbacks since arriving for spring training. Bailey has been limited to playing catch since he reported last week and is scheduled to throw off a mound for the first time on Friday.
Bailey's timetable has him returning to the rotation in mid-April. The Reds also need to replace starters Mat Latos and Alfredo Simon, who were traded during the offseason.
