The Colorado Rockies successfully argued their arbitration case against catcher Wilin Rosario on Wednesday.
Rosario, who was seeking a raise of nearly $3 million this season, will make $2.8 million in 2015, the three-person panel ruled, according to multiple reports. He asked the team for $3.3 million when the two sides exchanged figures after earning $502,000 last year.
Rosario, who turns 26 next week, experienced a dip in offensive production in 2014 after missing a career-high 30 games due to injury. The power-hitting catcher was slowed by a variety of ailments including right wrist pain, limiting him to just 13 home runs after consecutive 20-homer campaigns.
Despite providing plenty of pop behind the plate - he ranks third among catchers in home runs since 2012 - Rosario is expected to move off the position next season. With Nick Hundley projected as the club's starting catcher, Rosario is likely to see occasional reps as the backup, and could spell Justin Morneau at first base.
Rosario remains under club control through the 2017 season.
