Washington Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth will reportedly serve five days in jail after pleading guilty Thursday to a reckless driving charge, according to Justin Jouvenal of the Washington Post.
Werth, who was pulled over July 6 on I-495 after driving his Porsche roughly 50 miles over the speed limit, was originally expected to serve 10 days in jail, but his sentence was reduced upon appeal. Julie Carey of NBC reported Thursday afternoon that Werth will begin serving his sentence Friday.
The 35-year-old is currently recovering from arthroscopic shoulder surgery, but said earlier in January that his goal is to be ready for his team's Opening Day clash with the New York Mets at Nationals Park.
