Robbie Ross: Traded To Red Sox
Ross was traded to the Red Sox on Tuesday in exchange for Anthony Ranaudo.
Analysis:
The Red Sox did not have room for Ranaudo on the major league roster, and he was behind other young arms in the organization. So, they opted to get something for him now before his prospect luster wears off. Boston has a greater need for relievers than starters at this point, particularly if that starter isn't projected to be much more than fourth or fifth in the rotation. In 145.2 career relief innings, Ross has a 3.27 ERA and 114 strikeouts, so he could be used in the middle innings or as a long man, as he does not have noticeable splits despite being a lefty.
