Report: Marlins offer Ichiro Suzuki 1-year contract worth around $2 million
In an attempt to add a fourth outfielder, the Miami Marlins have reportedly offered Ichiro Suzuki a one-year deal in the range of $2-million, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.
The 41-year-old is holding out hope that he'll find an opportunity that would allow more playing time, though Jackson notes Suzuki likes the idea of playing in Miami.
A 10-time All-Star, Suzuki posted a solid campaign with the New York Yankees in 2014, hitting .284/.324/.340 with 13 doubles and 15 stolen bases in 143 games.
The Marlins are especially thin in terms of outfield depth, as starters Marcell Ozuna, Giancarlo Stanton and Christian Yelich are the only primary outfielders on the 40-man roster.
Should Suzuki sign elsewhere, Jackson believes the Marlins will trade for a outfielder or sign Nate Schierholtz. The 30-year-old split last season between the Chicago Cubs and Washington Nationals, hitting .195/.243/.309. The eight-year veteran owns a career .253 average.
