Report: Marlins talking with free-agent slugger Michael Morse
The Miami Marlins continue to scour the market for power hitters at first base and recent reports have them targeting free agent Michael Morse.
Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald tweets the Marlins continue to have dialogue with the 32-year-old Morse, who's arguably the top free-agent option left at first base.
The 6-foot-5 slugger has spent the majority of his career in the outfield, but he would likely see most of his time at first base in Miami. Morse suited up at the position for 43 games last year with the San Francisco Giants, and would represent a sizable upgrade over incumbent starter Garrett Jones.
Morse, a right-handed hitter, has been an above-average contributor at the plate the last several seasons, posting a cumulative .808 OPS with 78 homers since 2011. The 10-year veteran clubbed 16 home runs, 32 doubles and recorded a .336 on-base percentage in 131 games in 2014.
