The Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Angels completed a trade late Wednesday night.

The Rockies sent infielder Josh Rutledge to the Angels in exchange for right-handed pitcher Jairo Diaz, both clubs announced.

Rutledge, 25, hit .269/.323/.405 in 105 games for the Rockies this past season, with four home runs and 33 RBIs. He has a career 79 wRC+ in 266 games and is a below-average defender, according to FanGraphs

Rutledge projects to contend for the Angels' starting second baseman's job, after the club announced they traded Howie Kendrick to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Andrew Heaney

Diaz, 23, appeared in five games for the Angels in 2014. He had a 3.48 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 64 2/3 innings in High A and Double-A this year, striking out an impressive 85.
