The Chicago Cubs confirmed Pedro Strop was involved in a car accident Thursday, but said initial reports of his condition are encouraging.
Strop, 29, was reportedly injured in a multi-car accident in his native Dominican Republic, according to media outlet El Nuevo Diario. The Cubs confirmed the incident in an email to the Chicago Sun-Times.
"By all accounts thus far, he is doing fine all things considered," team spokesperson Peter Chase said.
Strops' accident comes just weeks after the tragic death of St. Louis Cardinals prospect Oscar Taveras, who was killed along with his girlfriend in a car crash in the Dominican on Oct. 26.
