Yankees' Sabathia: I feel like I can throw 200 innings in 2015
Despite missing the majority of the 2014 season with degenerative problems in his right knee that forced him to undergo surgery in July, veteran left-hander CC Sabathia is confident he can log 200 innings next year for the New York Yankees.
“Yeah, for sure,” Sabathia recently told YES Network. “I feel like I can. If you asked me that a couple of months ago, I would have said, ‘I don’t know,’ but the way I’m feeling now and being able to work out, definitely.”
Sabathia, who's set to earn $23 million in 2015, crafted a 5.28 ERA over eight starts last season before landing on the disabled list, but remains encouraged by the progress he's made rehabbing his knee.
“The knee, I have no complaints,” Sabathia said. “I’m able to do all of my workouts. … I’m changing a few things. Not as much pounding and running. I’m in the pool a lot, on different machines to get cardio, (on the) bike. Just adding a few different things to get some cardio in.”
A six-time All-Star, Sabathia will look to reclaim his spot atop a rotation decimated by injury one season ago. Sabathia, however, has struggled in recent years to replicate the success he enjoyed earlier in his career, as he owns a 4.87 ERA with a 1.39 WHIP over 40 starts since the beginning of 2013.
