Canseco reportedly injured himself at the end of October while cleaning a loaded gun. He had surgery in attempt to save his finger, but it fell off weeks later during a poker game.
The 50-year-old was selected to six All-Star Games over his 17-year career and claimed the American League's MVP award in 1988.
