Elvis Andrus likely won't be the one to replace Derek Jeter in the Bronx, as it remains very doubtful the New York Yankees broker a trade with the Texas Rangers for the 26-year-old shortstop, according to ESPN's Andrew Marchand.
An earlier report indicated the Yankees were intrigued by Andrus, a two-time All-Star, but it now appears the club will look elsewhere to find Jeter's replacement.
Andrus, a Venezuela native, once seemed poised to become one of the game's top shortstops, but a hefty contract extension and considerable regression over the last two seasons have caused his value to wane.
Andrus has struggled since signing an eight-year, $120-million extension with the Rangers in April of 2013, managing a meager 82 OPS+ over his last two seasons while notching just 1.3 WAR in 2014, tying him for the 25th-best mark among shortstops.
The Yankees, however, could pursue another seasoned shortstop currently under control of another American League team, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
