George Springer: (Quadriceps) Fully Healed
Astros GM Jeff Luhnow said Tuesday that Springer (quadriceps) is fully healed and that his offseason will rev up normally, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis:
With the quad issue that cost Springer virtually the entire second half behind him, the 25-year-old should be able to go through his normal offseason program and enter spring training without restriction. The Astros seemed to be playing it safe holding Springer out for the final couple weeks, as he successfully ran the bases toward the middle of September. While Springer's swing-and-miss tendencies (33 percent K%) figure to keep his batting average relatively low, he did smack 20 homers in his final 64 games of 2014 and could make more of an impact on the basepaths next season, if new manager A.J. Hinch is willing to give him the green light more often.
