Report: Astros have interest in Jason Hammel

The Houston Astros are one of roughly a dozen teams that have inquired about right-hander Jason Hammel, according to Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle.
Houston could be in the market for a mid-rotation starter, and Hammel fits the bill. The 32-year-old split time between the Oakland Athletics and Chicago Cubs last season, going 10-11 with a 3.47 ERA, though his time on the west coast was less than spectacular. After an early July trade to the A's, Hammel went 2-6 with a 4.26 ERA.
Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said in late October that the team expects to be active this offseason, and it was reported that Houston is willing to increase payroll by at least $20 million in order to make improvements.
