Report: Phillies' Hamels could hit trade market this winter
Cole Hamels' future in Philadelphia remains uncertain in the wake of another disappointing Phillies season, and the club could look to trade the 30-year-old left-hander this offseason, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
Hamels' name surfaced repeatedly in advance of the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, and one competing executive called the former first-round pick the Phillies' "only [valuable] trading chip."
Hamels, who's set to earn $90 million over the next four seasons, possesses a limited no-trade clause in his contract that he is currently updating. The three-time All-Star has until Nov. 1 to submit a list of 20 teams to which he can block trades.
Though he opened the campaign on the disabled list, Hamels enjoyed another impressive season in 2014, crafting a career-best 2.46 ERA (151 ERA+) with a 1.15 WHIP over 30 starts.
