Jon Jay set a St. Louis Cardinals franchise record by reaching base safely in 16 consecutive games after singling in the first inning of Game 5 of the National League Championship Series.

The Cardinals center fielder wasn't done. In the third inning, Jay hit an opposite-field double off San Francisco Giants left-hander Madison Bumgarner to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead. The double also snapped a dubious streak for Jay.

The previous mark for the most postseason at-bats without an extra-base hit was 90, held by David Eckstein
