The St. Louis Cardinals are facing a must-win game Thursday night, forcing their undisputed team leader to attempt some desperate measures.
Injured catcher Yadier Molina tried to talk his way into manager Mike Matheny's Game 5 lineup, according to USA TODAY baseball columnist Bob Nightengale.
Molina, who suffered a strained left oblique injury in Game 2, still isn't able to swing a bat. Matheny has instead elected to start Tony Cruz behind the plate. Though, Molina could come on as a defensive replacement at some point in Game 5.
The Cardinals trail the San Francisco Giants 3-1 in the best-of-seven series.
