2001 - Slammin' Sammy hits 60, again
Chicago Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa becomes the first player in major league history to hit at least 60 homers three times with a first-inning solo shot off Cincinnati Reds left-hander Lance Davis.

Sosa would add four more, including three in the final three games of the season, to finish with 64 on the season. Sosa's 64 ranks as the fifth-highest single-season homer total of all-time, two behind his 1998 season and one more than his 1999 tally.
