Orioles select contract of infielder Alexi Casilla
TORONTO (AP) With the playoffs just days away, the Baltimore Orioles made a late roster addition Saturday, selecting infielder Alexi Casilla from Triple-A Norfolk.
Casilla is making his season debut at third base and batting leadoff against the Blue Jays and left-hander J.A. Happ. It's just his third major league start at third base.
Baltimore designated right-hander Preston Guilmet to open a roster spot for Casilla, who is eligible for postseason play because he was in the organization on Aug. 31 and can replace a player from the 40-man roster who will remain on the disabled list during the start of postseason series.
An eight-year veteran, Casilla played in 62 games for Baltimore last year, batting .214 with one homer and 10 RBIs.
