A stubborn thumb injury will cost Texas Rangers outfielder Alex Rios the remainder of his season.
Rios played through a bruised thumb in August that officially sidelined him on Sept. 4, after it was discovered that it had become infected.
The 33-year-old wraps up his season hitting .280/.311/.398 with four home runs, 30 doubles and 54 RBI in 131 games.
Texas holds a $13.5 million team option on Rios for next season with a $1 million buyout.
