Ramiro Pena has come on as a replacement and Philip Gosselin has moved from second base to shortstop. Both players are serious downgrades defensively.
Simmons is hitting .243 with seven home runs and 45 RBIs thus far this season for the currently-slumping Braves, who have dropped five straight contests to rapidly lose ground in the National League wild-card hunt.
