1990 - The Griffeys go back-to-back in California
Ken Griffey deposits a two-run shot just beyond the wall in center field to give the Seattle Mariners a first-inning lead over the California Angels before Ken Griffey Jr. follows with a solo shot of his own, marking the first time in major-league history that a father and son ever recorded back-to-back homers.

"The only thing I remember him saying is, 'That's how you do it, son,'" Griffey Jr. recalled during a 2010 interview with MLB.com.
1996 - Big Mac becomes 13th player to record 50 homers in a season
Oakland Athletics first baseman Mark McGwire thrusts himself into rarefied air with a two-run shot off of Cleveland Indians right-hander Chad Ogea, becoming just the 13th player in major-league history to record at least 50 home runs in a single season.
McGwire, who earned his eighth career All-Star berth months earlier, narrowly edges Baltimore Orioles outfielder Brady Anderson for the American League home run crown while establishing a new career high with 52 round-trippers.
McGwire, however, is traded to the St. Louis Cardinals the following season, beginning an illustrious stint there that eventually saw the hulking slugger shatter Roger Maris' long-standing record of 61 homers in a single season.
