The Toronto Blue Jays acquired outfielder John Mayberry Jr. from the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday night in exchange for minor-league infielder Gustavo Pierre.
The 30-year-old Mayberry hit .213/.304/.418 (101 OPS+) in 63 games with the Phillies this season, swatting six home runs and driving in 21 runs. He logged time at all three outfield positions as well as first base. In 500 career games, he owns a .242/.304/.429 line. He has two years of salary arbitration left on his contract after the 2014 season.
In Pierre, the Phillies add a 22-year-old third baseman who split time between High-A and Double-A this season. He carried a .260/.281/.389 slash lines across both leagues.
